Ball Clock: A Cooler Way To Tell Time

Posted by grizzlymedia on November 14, 2008

[clearspring_widget title=”Ball Clock” wid=”48ce7cdc6af09c41″ pid=”491e2eb101e14d85″ width=”280″ height=”210″ domain=”widgets.clearspring.com”]

I found out about this cool gadget from one of my Twitter friends, a fourteen-year-old blogger named Xavier Lur from Singapore who calls himself Kid Tech Guru. He blogs about cool Web 2.0 tools and tech websites. You can visit his blog here for more cool tips. Kid Tech Guru got the idea from a programmer named Adam Bowman. You can visit Adam’s site here where you can copy the code for the clock so you can embed it into your blog (even WordPress!!!!) or social networking site. According to the site, you can edit the colors of the balls, lines, and numbers. I was only able to change the colors from black to white and vice versa. I wanted to change them to lovely green and blue Creekview colors, but, sadly, they refused to cooperate. Maybe you’ll have better luck. I case you haven’t figured the clock out, the hour is on the bottom line, and the minutes are on the middle and then the top line. Each ball in the middle row stands for five minutes. Thanks Xavier and Adam!

Actually, this pic of Kristen was snapped on Halloween, but it was too late to make it into my Animoto vid for the day. Then today, Dylan was styling in this way cool pose. Maybe we just have more rockin’ peeps in our hood than other libraries do. At any rate, meet a couple of our interesting library regulars. They rock!

A Shout-Out to Kwout

Posted by grizzlymedia on March 25, 2008

Have you ever wished you could copy a screenshot of just part of a web page? Not only that, have you ever wanted to make that part you copied look all cool and smooth and neat, copying just exactly the part of the page you wanted, with groovy, sleek, rounded edges? Well, then you need Kwout! Kwout is so simple to use. And I am all about the simple. Kwout is an easy way to quote a part of a web page with an image map. All you have to do is add the Kwout bookmarklet to your image browser (just right click and then click on “Add to Favorites.” The easy-to-follow directions are right on the Kwout home page. Then all you do is go to the page you want to quote or copy a screenshot from, then click on the Kwout bookmark (click on “Favorites” and then “Kwout,” highlight the area of the page you wish to copy, click on “Cut Out,”make a few selections, but only if you’re in the mood, copy the code, and then embed it into your web page or blog. The code embeds easily into WordPress, which is not a common occurrence. Sorry, WordPress, but you know it’s the truth. We love you, but your embedding skills need a little polishing.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the coolest art teacher of them all? It has got to be our own Ms. McCloskey. And her art students. This week, their contribution is three-dimensional tape sculpture. Check out their first three fabulous contributions. For more information on tape sculpture, and instructions on how to create your own, you can go to TapeSculpture.org. OK, you know that they’re not using live objects in the website’s demonstrations, right? Don’t try taping up live babies to make a sculpture. That is a DOLL, not a baby. Real babies do not survive taping. Our students used members of their group as molds for their creations, and they did a fantastic job! Kudos to all our great Creekview artists, and Ms. McCloskey, the world’s greatest art teacher!

Go Web 2.0

Are you a Web 2.0 junky? Are you addicted to all things Web 2.0? Well, this website called Go2Web2.0 that I stole from Mrs. Franchini at Sequoyah is the Internet drug you’ve been looking for. If you are addicted to Web 2.0, or just the Internet in general, there is enough “stuff” here on this WEb 2.0 directory to keep you occupied for the rest of your life. Literally. You can type in a tag or topic in which you are interested, or just sort by date or by name. Once you click on a specific site, you get a brief description of the website, and the list scrolls down so you can see more sites. If you like the description of a website, you can click on it and proceed to use it. If not, hey, there are quadrillions more to try. Literally.

We Love Books (And Image Chef!)

Posted by grizzlymedia on February 12, 2008

Image Chef is a cool Web 2.0 tool that allowed me to create this cutesie-pie graphic. You can personalize all sorts of things and then turn them into your own cards and emails or post them to your blog or webite. I made a great blooming flower Valentine’s Day animation email to send to my son in New Zealand. Image Chef is free, fun, and easy. You simply must try it!
