The Grizzly Den

Do the Grizzly Dance!

Posted by grizzlymedia on April 7, 2008

Turn on your speakers and watch this cool grizzly dance at LiveScience. You’ll have to sit through a quick commercial before the video, but it’s well worth it for the grizzly fun! According to a news article on Fox News, grizzlies and black bears shimmy against the trees to alert other bears to their presence. Did it occur to the scientists that maybe their backs just itch from all that fur? Maybe they do know what they’re talking about, though, because the bears actually sniff the trees before beginning their bear-tree dance to see who has visited the tree. Bears appear to enjoy visiting the same tree, including grizzlies and black bears who visit the same tree in the same day. What makes some trees more popular than others? I don’t know! Ask the bears!
